Corona: “Carlos Corberán transmits energy, hunger and enthusiasm”
Statementsby the Valencia CF sporting director at the presentation of Carlos Corberán asValencia CF coach
A proud Albert Celades spoke to the media following Valencia CF's first ever win at the new San Mames -and his first LaLiga victory as a coach- in his post-match press conference.
The game
"We liked the response from the players a lot. We had come into this one off a run of tough games, and the players put in a huge effort. We know what it means to come here and win; Athletic have a very good dynamic going and concede few goals, and they had gone many games without losing at home. We knew that we were going to experience difficulties, but we knew that we would have chances -and that proved to be the case."
A boost in morale
"The situation is what it is. Regardless of anything that you hear from outside, we know the level of demand present at this club. When you don't win, and after drawing two consecutive games, we work to improve and we understand that the fans might be displeased at times. This is a very good group on a sporting and human level, and this is helping us a lot. It's a source of great pride to be with them."
Finishing chances
"We had the clearer chances in the game and we weren't able to finish them off, but what the players did deserves a lot of credit, because Athletic have a great team. We should be proud. We also have to value the fact that we didn't concede."
Garay's injury
"He had some discomfort and we didn't want to force things."
Manu Vallejo and Rubén Sobrino
"I'm very satisfied with the contributions from Manu and Sobrino. They train very well, they help the group in internal aspects and they make me happy. They go out there and enjoy themselves."
Conclusions
"We always draw conclusions from every minute that we are with the players. When you come in, you have an idea of what the players are like, but if you aren't amongst them then you don't have any real knowledge of them. It's a logical process. In the two home games we've had, there were moments in which we didn't play well. We are critical of ourselves, but we've also had some very good games. Even though the team didn't win at home this week, they also did things well."
